The director of the president’s office Andreas Iosif assured protesters outside the palace on Sunday that their concerns over gender equality in the national guard would be addressed.

Iosif accepted a letter from the protesters, which included non-commissioned female army personnel and their families that resolving their issues was on the table in the coming week.

The women claim that they are treated unequally at work due to their gender.

Iosif thanked them for their service and said that the president recognises the important work performed by women in the army.

He said that the Commissioner for Administration had convened a meeting for this coming Wednesday with representatives of the defence ministry to discuss the issues.

“These are issues that have been pending and I assure you will be handled,” said Iosif.
