According to an announcement from the labour welfare department, the companies EM Athanasiou Constructions & Development Ltd and DTA Athnasiou Constructions Ltd were both fined €19,000 after workers died on the job from the dangerous labour conditions.

The first company was charged with failing to provide the proper scaffolding for work done on a building, which caused the death of one worker.

The second company was found guilty by the Limassol court of negligence when hiring the subcontractor for the building leading to the death of another worker.

One person involved was given a six-month commuted prison sentence and the other individual a four-month commuted prison sentence.
