In today’s episode, Archbishop Chrysostomos II, head of the Autocephalous Church of Cyprus has died aged 81 after a long battle with cancer.

According to an announcement from his doctors, the Archbishop passed away peacefully at 6.40am on Monday. A session of the Holy Synod is expected to convene within the day and government events have been cancelled.

In other news, three more inmates were arrested in connection with the murder of a Turkish Cypriot at the Nicosia central prisons on October 27, police said. It is understood that he had been bludgeoned to death.

Elsewhere, The met office has issued a yellow warning for storms and rain today between 12 noon and 8pm. Rainfall is expected to vary between 35 and 50 millimetres per hour, with possible hail.
