An explosion at the Pyrgos community council offices was caused by a fragmentation grenade in the early morning hours on Thursday.

According to police, residents heard a loud explosion in eastern Limassol around 1am. However, officers patrolling the area detected nothing suspicious.

Shortly before 6am, it was found that the door and wall of the entrance to the Pyrgos community council were damaged.

A Limassol police patrol and an explosives expert were at the scene for examinations.

“Statements are being taken, both from members of the community council and local residents, to identify the perpetrators and the exact motives of this attempt to destroy property with explosives,” Limassol CID chief Lefteris Kyriacou said.
