A performance-lecture will take place at Limassol’s NeMe this weekend where Rosa Menkman will introduce a work in progress, created with support from NeMe, within the framework of the European Media Art Platform residency. Titled A Mountain that Refracts Light and Time, the lecture will begin at 7pm on Saturday, December 10 and will touch on Menkman’s 2022 summer travels around the Mediterranean learning about three Cyclope lineages.

“Cyclopes are famous mythical creatures,” say the event organisers, “known for their gargantuan physique and single round eye. However, beyond their most famous features, and maybe a name born by a single Cyclope, little about them is known. In fact, Cyclopes seem shrouded in mystery, sparking general questions such as: Where do contemporary Cyclopes live, and how do Cyclopes perceive the world?”

This Saturday, Menkman will introduce her ongoing process in A Mountain that Refracts Light and Time. The work is narrated by the Angel of History, a recurring figure in Menkman’s work that watches the Cyclopes pasts and learns from their perspectives in an attempt to apply the lessons to the future.
