Ninth Santa Run coming up on Boxing Day

santa run

The annual Santa Run event which sees dozens of runners dressed as Santa is taking over Nicosia’s streets for the ninth time on December 26, organised by NGO RuNicosia in collaboration with Apoel Roadrunners. Music by Tanglatino will accompany the runners early on Monday morning.

Starting from various parts of the city with an intermediate stop at the Makarios Hospital, dressed as Santas, the runners will sing carols and entertain the children who are battling cancer. The goal is the financial assistance of the Hope Foundation which supports “every child to emerge victorious from this tough ordeal and never again to allow cancer to steal the life of any child”.

With only €10 runners can register for the race, choose a starting point, walk or run for children with cancer. Those who wish can make their own individual/corporate contributions without physical presence at the event, directly to the Hope Foundation. Registrations happen via the official website, www.santarun.com.cy and only until December 24.

The runners, led by experienced athletes, will move in groups on public roads, on pavements, and following traffic rules. Starts will be made from Hotel Cleopatra at 9.30am, APOEL at 9.15am, Strovolos Town Hall at 9.30am, Elysee (Industrial Area) at 7am, New Elysee Offices 8.10am and Engomi Town Hall at 9am. All of the routes will meet at Makarios Hospital where participants will sing Christmas carols with Tanglatino. From there, the Santa Runners will move all together towards the old town, terminating on Ledras-Onasagorou Streets where they will be treated to hot soup and drinks.
