Arrest after elderly man robbed of money withdrawn from ATM

A 22-year-old man has been arrested in a case concerning theft from an elderly man, police said on Saturday.

Police said the 22-year-old is suspected of stealing money from a 78-year-old man after the latter had withdrawn cash from an ATM.

The incident is thought to have taken place at 11am on Friday, when the 78-year-old withdrew €760 in cash.

Following the withdrawal, the young man followed the elderly person to his car, snatched the cash from his hand and fled.

The police said that preliminary investigations led to evidence against the young man, who was arrested at 2:30 on Friday afternoon.

According to the police report, during a check, the man was aggressive towards the investigating officers and tried to resist arrest.

During the investigation, the aforementioned amount in cash was found in the man’s possession.

Police have urged people to be particularly vigilant when withdrawing cash from ATMs.
