Police in Limassol confiscate smuggled cigarettes, petrol

Limassol police at dawn on Wednesday arrested a 44-year-old man for illegal possession of large quantities of duty-free cigarettes and petrol.

According to a police announcement, the suspect’s car was stopped at around 2 am in Kato Polemidia and searched.

During the search, the driver was found to be transporting a total of 106 cartons of cigarettes, 10 cartons of manufactured tobacco, as well as three 20-liter drums containing petrol, which appeared to have been purchased from the north.

The 44-year-old Nicosia resident was arrested and taken into custody.

The customs department continues investigations.
