Three people who attempted to depart the island using forged travel documents at Limassol port will remain in police custody until their trial starts on January 13.

The suspects, aged 26, 25 and 23, were brought before the Limassol district court on Tuesday, a day after they were arrested.

On Monday, they arrived at the Limassol port to travel to Genoa, where they presented European passports.

After suspicions were raised about the documents, examinations revealed they had been forged. The suspects were transferred to Limassol CID.

During questioning, the three, in Cyprus as political asylum seekers, confessed they got the passports from another person in order to leave island.
