President Nicos Anastasides will brief King Charles III about the latest developments on the Cyprus problem during his visit in the UK next week, it was announced on Friday.

The president and the King will also talk about Turkey’s latest provocations in the Eastern Mediterranean and bilateral relations between Cyprus and the United Kingdom during their first meeting on Monday, presidential press office director Andreas Iosif said in a written statement.

Climate change is also expected to be discussed as well as the consequences of the energy crisis due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The meeting will take place at Balmoral Castle in Scotland at 10.30am UK time. It is President Anastasiades’ first meeting with King Charles III, following his proclamation as King of Great Britain last September, after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

On Wednesday, President Anastasiades received Princess Anne at the Presidential Palace, who was visiting Cyprus to inspect Britain’s contingent in UNFICYP.

Meanwhile, on Saturday evening, the president will be honoured by the United Kingdom Federation of Cypriots and the Inter-Party Group for Cyprus in the British Parliament during a Gala Dinner on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Republic.

The event was planned twice before but was postponed due to the pandemic and the death of Queen Elizabeth.

It will be attended by a representative of the British Government and members of the British Parliament. It is expected to highlight the significant contribution of Cypriot expatriates to the strengthening of bilateral relations between Cyprus and the United Kingdom as well as to the promotion of our national cause.
