A parent has complained about another Modern Greek exam leak in high school, the same week as a teacher allegedly leaked the topics of the exam to seniors.

The head of the Pancyprian confederation of parents’ association Loizos Constantinou confirmed the complaint was filed to the education ministry on Tuesday, after second grade secondary school students undertook the exam.

According to the complaint, a private school student seemed to know the topics of the exam a day before and had shared them with a group of students who attended the same private institute for afternoon lessons in Limassol.

This comes as the education ministry is investigating a teacher at a specific private school for leaking the questions of a Modern Greek exam to final grade high school students. The exam was interrupted while a screenshot circulated showing the teacher had sent a message through social media to a student with some of the topics of the exam, some hours before it took place.

Students then had to take a second exam that had been prepared, with about an hour delay from the initial time. A small portion of students who failed to sit the exam that day will be allowed to take it together with those who were missing on excused absences on January 31.

Meanwhile, another issue emerged regarding the grading of the Modern Greek exams, Constantinou said.

After teachers started correcting them based on the pre-approved instructions of the education ministry, they received amendments to the test correction guidelines. This creates confusion, since essay questions and poem interpretation can have multiple meanings, Constantinou said.

He explained that the correction guidelines are implemented for all topics to make sure there is one way of correction and there are right answers. This reflects the material taught in schools and it cannot be changed arbitrarily.
