New exhibitions in Nicosia

Two new exhibitions are opening in the capital, putting varied art forms to the spotlight. Visual artist Christiana Georgiou will present her first solo exhibition this January and February with paintings and a multi-participatory performance, under the title Kata-Avra – Analafro – Keno. The exhibition will open on Saturday at the Elias Aletras Cultural Centre in Old Aglandjia Square in Nicosia and will run until February 11.

Talking about the showcase, the organisers comment: “The exhibition will take the art-loving public on a journey into the emptiness of existence and the need that humans have to give meaning to and continue their life.”

Also coming shortly to Nicosia’s art scene is another kind of art exhibit. The Common Room next to Prozak will showcase the first solo exhibition of Robert Der Arakelian entitled Typogramika, as of February 9. The week-long show will present his latest works which are heavily based on dry-transfers such as Letraset and Mecanorma along with other typographic elements and images he has collected over the last 20 years. The work displays his appreciation of the Greek and English alphabet, different fonts and the use of colour.
