Police in Paphos arrest man for stabbing incident, drugs

Police have arrested a 55-year-old man who allegedly stabbed and injured a 58-year-old with a knife in Paphos on January 8.

According to a police statement, on January 8 the 58-year-old reported that shortly before noon a neighbourhood acquaintance approached him, proceeded to verbally abuse his wife and attacked him with a knife, injuring his left hand.

The 58-year-old was taken to the Paphos general hospital A&E department where his hand was stitched up and he was released.

On Sunday, police on patrol spotted and chased the suspect who was arrested after a failed attempt to flee.

During a subsequent search police found a 9cm long knife with pointed tip and a quantity of drugs in the man’s possession.

Police remanded the 55-year-old in custody for driving violations, carrying a prohibited knife, assault with actual bodily harm, and possession of illegal drugs.
