Police in Paphos on Tuesday arrested a 26-year-old man for burglary and theft, as well as obstructing a police officer in the performance of his duty.

According to police statement, shortly before 5 pm members of the crime prevention unit went to Evangelou Floraki Street in Chloraka, in response to a tip-off that individuals were trying to sell stolen property.

One of these persons was acting suspiciously and police instructed him to stop for a check, however, he did not comply and escaped into a residence without the owner’s permission.

Police pursued and arrested the man, whereupon they determined his age, and evidence also emerged against him of having been involved in a break-in of a coffee shop in Emba, reported by its owner on Monday. The suspect was reported to have made off with €80 on cash and €800 worth of items, including electronics and beverages.

Based on the resulting testimony, a new arrest warrant was issued against the suspect and he was re-arrested for the burglary.

Police are continuing investigations.
