Police are investigating the cause of an injury sustained by a 12-year-old boy who is now intubated at Nicosia general hospital with a fractured skull and brain hematoma.

Famagusta police spokesman Steve Theodoulou explained on Saturday that the Ayia Napa police station was contacted at about 7pm on Friday and received information that a young person was injured, seemingly in a traffic incident, on the road near Ayios Epifanios church.

Theodoulou detailed that local police officers and personnel from the traffic department arrived at the scene and investigations are ongoing.

The teenager was initially taken by ambulance to Famagusta general hospital but was transferred to Nicosia general once his condition was evaluated and the seriousness of his injuries was understood.

Theodoulou concluded by saying that the cause of the incident remains unknown.
