Man arrested for theft of items worth over €75,000

Police on Sunday arrested a 29-year-old man in connection with a case under investigation of residential burglary and theft in Nicosia.

According to a police statement, the burglary was committed at noon on April 28 at an apartment in Ayioi Omologites. According to the resident, items valued at €76,851 were stolen, including jewellery, clothing and appliances.

At around 7pm on Sunday police investigating the case spotted the 29-year-old moving suspiciously on foot in the area and subjected him to a check. In a subsequent search of the suspect’s car, police located a mobile phone, which was later identified as one of the items stolen during the burglary.

The suspect was unable to provide satisfactory explanation for possession of the phone and he was arrested for evident offences.

His age and identity were established, as a third country national residing illegally in the Republic, and he was re-arrested for this crime.

Nicosia police continues investigations.
