Gender equality commissioner Josie Christodoulou on Monday updated Agriculture Minister Petros Xenophontos on the programme advocating for a greater presence of women in governmental jobs.

Christodoulou said the programme’s goal is to promote gender equality and to integrate women into all ministries and deputy ministries in Cyprus.

“A fundamental principle of the commissioner is the promotion of systematic training for officials and public servants on the importance of integrating the gender dimension into the portfolio of each ministry and deputy ministry,” a statement released by the gender equality commissioner’s office said.

Xenophontos also emphasised the need to give voice to women living and working in remote and rural areas and to empower women farmers.

The two agreed upon a joint action to engage more women in the field of rural development.
