arrest

A 39-year-old man, who allegedly hit an officer with his car over the weekend in Larnaca, has been arrested, police said on Monday.

The man was driving his car at a central avenue of the district on Sunday night when traffic police signalled him to stop because the specific road was closed to traffic.

However, the man failed to comply and hit one policeman with his vehicle. The officer fell to the ground and injured himself, the police statement said.

He was then taken by ambulance to Larnaca General where he received first aid for some abrasions and bruises on his body and was discharged.

The driver was arrested later that night and is expected to be released form police custody on Monday pending his court appearance.
