President to lay foundation stone for AUB in Paphos

President Nikos Christodoulides is making a day-long visit to Paphos on Wednesday.

According to official announcement, the president will lay the foundation stone of the American University of Beirut in the morning in the Charoupomylos (Old Carob Mills) building complex. The ceremony at the AUB premises will take place at 11am.

Mayor of Paphos Phedonas Phedonos, stated that the AUB which will operate starting in September, strengthens efforts of the state and local authorities to develop higher education.

The projects progressed at a very fast pace, the mayor said, adding that it is expected that as of October the first phase of the project will be completed.

The university will operate temporarily for a few months out of facilities of the Paphos Innovation Centre granted by the municipality and the first students will be welcomed there. Soon after students will move into the new university facilities, Phedonas said, which are to be expanded.

At noon the president will meet with the Paphos chamber of commerce (Eve) to discuss the creation of the marina in Potima and completion of the road network from Paphos Airport to ​​Coral Bay.

The progress of the first phase of works on the Paphos-Polis Chrysochous highway and designs for the second phase will also be discussed.

At 5pm, Christodoulides will inaugurate the ‘Nassos Konstantinou’ training centre of Paphos football club, near Geroskipou beach.
