Three nights of jazz

jazz project

The unsteady temperatures these past few weeks may not make it feel like the Cypriot summer that we know – though it is still early days – yet rest assured, the hot and sweaty summer days will soon take over. Along with warmer weather, the summer brings with it a myriad of events.

Festivals, back-to-back music nights, touring theatre performances, residencies and late-night parties, the summer has it all. One of them that is coming up in mid-June is an annual occasion that brings together some of the island’s best musicians from the jazz and Latin music scene. Preparations for the Jazz Project Limassol Vol.7 are underway that will take place at Loel Winery in Ipsonas on June 16-18.

The three-day music event is organised by the Limassol bar Vinylio Wine Etc along with DCON IT-AV Solutions and will host a series of local musicians, bands and ensembles who will perform in the heart of the old town.

“After 20 years of professional conference services, DCON is now entering for the first time into music productions. We couldn’t choose a better partner to collaborate with other than my beloved friend Victoria Charalambous owner of Vinylio wine etc. We will merge our professional experience in conference production with Victoria’s amazing and experienced ideas in music events to produce a unique and unforgettable jazz project. It will take place inside Loel Winery, a brand-new winery in Ipsonas surrounded by huge stainless-steel tanks full of wine,” organisers say.

Each night, three different sets will take the stage. Opening the event will be the Aris Constantinou Trio at 8pm. Then members of the Batukinio Percussion Band will play energising samba and Afro-Brazilian music before the Steppin’ Out Jazz Band performs jazz music, joined by saxophonist Charis Ioannou. Day two will welcome the French Connection band, Batukinio and Yemaya Son with their Cuban-Latin jazz. The final day of the jazz project will host the Toumbas/Messios/Vaffeas Trio, Batukinio once again and finally, Eleonora Roussou and her Beats ‘n’ Pieces ensemble playing a pop and soul edition of their music.
