A 25-year-old man was remanded at Famagusta district court for eight days on Thursday, suspected of driving a boat with 13 migrants to the Cape Greco coast.

Police said that at around 8.30pm the previous evening, a boat spanning about five meters long was spotted carrying 13 migrants just 12 nautical miles east of Cape Greco. The passengers were all male—one of whom was a minor.

The migrants were safely transported by officers to the Paralimni fishing shelter and then onwards to the Pournara reception centre.

During the court hearing, the judge heard testimony had been secured, placing the 25-year-old as the boat’s driver. Police will continue investigations.
