Police on Saturday urged the public to be cautious about a new scam on Instagram asking people to vote in a contest.
According to the police’s electronic crime unit, fake accounts are sending people messages asking them to vote in a fake contest or job advertisements.
To vote, people are being asked to spread a malicious link on their profiles, which is then used to take control of the individual’s profile.
Police have called on the public to be cautious and not respond to these messages.
If the link is sent, it is recommended to immediately check and change the password of the account.
Police urge the public to activate the two-factor security settings for their electronic accounts, to protect against this type of online fraud.
