The works of seven contemporary international artists are currently on display in the Limassol gallery Lumiere Contemporary Art. The Art en Vogue exhibition opened in early June and will run until September showcasing the works of Angelina Guez (France), Christina Drakos (Cyprus), Goung-Mi Jegal (Korea), Kinka Caetano (Brazil), Marina Suzdaltseva (Russia), Martine Pierson (France) and Yoko Piekolek-Furusawa (Japan).
“Fashionable art,” say organisers, “refers to contemporary art that is currently in vogue, popular and sought after by collectors, critics and art enthusiasts. It is often associated with new and innovative styles, techniques and subject matters that challenge traditional art forms. Fashionable art can vary across different art movements and genres, from abstract expressionism and pop art to street art and digital art. It can also include emerging artists who are gaining recognition for their unique perspectives and artistic contributions.
“Ultimately, what is considered fashionable art is subjective and can change over time, as artistic tastes and trends evolve. Fashionable, contemporary art is an ever-evolving field that reflects the diversity and complexity of the world around us. Owing to digitisation, globalisation and mass culture, what is deemed ‘desirable’ and ‘of the moment’ in art has increasingly followed the patterns of fashion. While in the past artistic styles were always inflected with signs of their modernity, today biennales and art markets are defined by the next big thing, the next sensation, the next new idea. But how do opinions of what is ‘good’, ‘progressive’ and ‘cutting edge’ guide styles? What is it that makes works of art fashionable and commercial?”
