Four buses were destroyed in a fire on Tuesday evening, that plunged Aglandjia in a plume of smoke.

The flames were under control shortly before 10pm, around an hour and a half after the blaze began.

Fire services spokesman Andreas Kettis said three fire trucks had been deployed to the scene to fight the flames from the Nicosia station.

The fire was close to the police headquarters building and left four buses completely charred.

Another four buses which were close to the flames were safeguarded from the blaze. Cypress trees fencing off a police unit were affected from the fire.

“Police will be securing the scene throughout the night and investigations over the cause of the fire will begin in the morning,” Kettis said.

A weapons unit was also shielded from the fire, the spokesman noted.

Kapnos airport shuttle in a brief announcement specified the buses did not belong to the company. The buses in question were parked next to the Kapnos’ bus parking area.
