Cypriot athletes have produced impressive performances at the 3rd European Games in Poland, winning two silver medals and two bronze.

Acording to Andreas Andreou, an emissary of the Union of Sportswriters of Cyprus, 19-year-old Irini Kontou won a bronze in karate. Kyriaki Kouttoukis then quickly earned Cyprus’ next medal – a bronze in taekwondo. The streak of success continued as two track and field athletes, Milan Trajkovic and Olivia Fotopolou, won silver medals in B category races.

On Monday, Andreas Theocharous, Andreas Stylianou, Suzana Toumazou, and Sofia Antoniou will all be in action in the taekwondo quarter finals, with Cypriot fencers Irina Maurikiou and Alexandros Todalidis also due to compete

Eleni Christodoulou is the sole Cypriot representative for badminton in the games. Ranked 291 in the world, the 24-year-old begins her campaign against British athlete, Christy Gilmour, who is ranked 32nd. If Christodoulou wins, she will take part in a second match against Polish athlete, Viktoria Dabzinsk, at 10:30am on Tuesday.

Later on Monday Charalambos Charalambous will face Kasper Sierakovosky in archery. On Tuesday, Elena Petrou will compete against Jaspreet Kaur Sagou.

The European Games run between June 21 and July 2.
