Ten packages of anabolic steroid pills of 100mg each were discovered by customs officials in the trunk of a car driven by a Turkish Cypriot at the Dheryneia checkpoint on Monday.

The department on Tuesday said the man was illegally transporting the pills to the Republic with the intention of selling them.

The pills were immediately seized and handed over to the Famagusta district Ykan drug squad for further investigation.

“In light of the incident that took place at the checkpoint in Dheryneia, the customs department would like to remind everyone that, according to the current regulations, the transportation of narcotics and other prohibited substances, such as anabolic or steroid pills, from the occupied areas to the Republic is strictly forbidden,” the department said.

It also warned that the purchase and consumption of pharmaceutical products acquired from the north can pose health complications for people, as they may be counterfeit.
