Police on Monday arrested a 37-year-old Nicosia resident for illegal possession and transportation of a firearm and carrying a weapon to incite terror.

For the same case, four other persons were arrested over the weekend, three of whom are in custody.

According to the police the investigation began in the early hours of Saturday following information received about a fight inside a nightclub.

Officers went to the scene and learned that one of those involved had pulled out a handgun during the altercation.

Further investigation yielded testimony against four persons, aged 32, 37, 39 and 41. These were arrested on Sunday with court warrants and their house was searched but nothing was found.

The 37-year-old, 39-year-old and 41-year-old were brought before the Nicosia District Court, on the same day, and were remanded in custody for five days.

The 32-year-old was interrogated in writing and released, since nothing was found against him.

Testimony was obtained against a second 37-year-old. A judicial arrest warrant was issued against him on Monday and he was taken into custody.
