Man arrested for helping son escape after causing car crash

A man was arrested in Morphou in the early hours of Monday after helping his son escape to the Republic after the latter had caused a car crash which left one person seriously injured.

The crash occurred on the road between Peristeronari and Pentayia. Following the crash, the man drove his son to the Astromeritis crossing point, where he crossed into the Republic at around 1:40am.

Police tracked down and arrested the father for covering up a crime, before he appeared in court in Morphou on Monday morning.

He was remanded in custody for three days as police continue their investigation. The whereabouts of his son are not yet known.
