Free saplings to be handed out during Tree Week

The forestry department is gearing up for Tree Week, scheduled to take place from Sunday to December2, with events and activities set to take place in various districts.

According to the department, the kick-off for Tree Week will begin on Sunday at 11am at the events hall of Kokkinotrimithia Primary School B.

The event’s blessing will be carried out by Bishop Chrysostomos of Kyrenia, while the keynote speaker will be Agriculture Minister Petros Xenophontos.

The programme will conclude with tree planting on the school grounds.

The forestry department will distribute free saplings to the public at the event’s venue and at various points in Nicosia on Sunday from 10am for approximately an hour. The distribution points include Eleftheria Square, Makarios Avenue, Athalassa Forest Park, Akademias and Faneromeni Square.

Furthermore, events for Tree Week will also take place in other districts, namely at the Ypsonas, Liopetri and Stroumbi primary schools.
