Patient injured during fire at Athalassa

Police are investigating a fire that broke out in a ward at the Athalassa psychiatric hospital on Thursday, with one patient suffering burns and another respiratory problems.

According to Fire Service spokesman Andreas Kettis, at around 5pm they dispatched two fire engines after getting a call about the fire at Athalassa hospital.

“The fire was put out. The patients were evacuated and counted. Two of the patients were transferred to hospital for treatment. The rest are in good health,” Kettis posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The total number of patients in Athalassa comes to 27.
