Three baggage handlers in north arrested for theft

Three baggage handlers at Ercan (Tymbou) airport appeared in court on Thursday after being arrested on suspicion of stealing from passengers’ suitcases while working.

In court, it was heard that the trio opened a total of four suitcases and stole 20,000TL (€630), £2,700 (€3,111), and €20,000 in cash, as well as jewellery, electronic goods, watches, and sunglasses.

The goods stolen included gold necklaces, designer watches, diamond rings, and earrings, as well as tablets, mobile phones, and electronic cigarettes.

The trio were remanded in custody for three days.
