Two explosions occurred in Nicosia on Thursday in the early morning hours outside café/bars, police said.

The first explosion happened outside a café/bar in the centre of Nicosia in the early hours, police reported, while news sources report a second explosion in the morning outside a coffee shop in Lakatamia.

According to police, the explosion in the centre of town caused damage to the pavement and the window of a nightclub located across from the coffee shop but did not damage the coffee shop itself.

Police established that the explosion occurred shortly after 4am and that the explosive device had been planted on the pavement.

The scenes have been cordoned off and Nicosia CID are carrying out tests at both sites.
