An elderly man rescued by the fire services K-9 unit was pronounced dead at the hospital, after he went missing on a hunting trip in the Stavrovouni area, the fires services said on Thursday.

The man was reported missing at around 5pm on Wednesday, and an operation was immediately launched to locate him. With the use of rescue dogs, the man was found in the Stavrovouni area unconscious.

He was administered first aid, and transferred to an ambulance, the fire services said.

The man was rushed to Larnaca general’s accidents and emergencies department, where he was pronounced dead.

Sources told the Cyprus Mail, that he seems to have died of natural causes and a post-mortem is set to be conducted later in the day to determine the exact cause.
