A total of 55 families will receive support from Larnaca’s food bank ahead of the Christmas and New Year festivities.

There are still more applications pending however, which may see the figure go up, head of the city’s food bank Kokos Yerasimou told the Cyprus News Agency on Friday.

Last year, 105 families received the support.

Yerasimou specified members of the public as well as businesses, banks and religious organisations have contributed financially to help purchase meat, vegetables, Christmas sweets and other food.

Schools have also been organising donations.

The support packages will be handed over on December 22 for Christmas on December 29 for the New Year.
