Only solution is equality for Turkish Cypriots says minister

The only solution for Cyprus is granting sovereign equality and equal international status to the Turkish Cypriots, Turkish Defence Minister Yasar Guler said on Sunday.

In an interview in Turkish media, he referred to the current positive climate with Greece, but said “we will never put our national interests in danger while searching for a peaceful solution”.

Speaking about Cyprus, Guler said: “no results have resulted from the methods for resolution proposed so far. Solution of the Cyprus problem as soon as possible is one of the priorities for our country in a way that guarantees the legal rights and security of the Turkish Cypriot people.

“We say once again that we will do our best for peace, security and prosperity in Cyprus, which is our national issue, within the framework of the Treaties of Guaranty and alliances,” he added.
