Two people were arrested in Limassol on Sunday after a third person reported he had been attacked and racially abused while at work in a bakery.

The two, aged 42 and 38, were detained while an inquiry continues into offences committed under the racism and xenophobia law, assault and giving false information to the police.

On Saturday morning the two had reported to police that they had gone to a bakery and were attacked by a certain employee, who they reported to police.

On the same morning, a 29-year-old man went to Limassol central police station and reported that in the early hours of the same morning, while working in a bakery, he had been attacked by two people who beat him up (without using weapons) and made racist slurs against him.

The 29-year-old then reported to Limassol General Hospital where he was examined by a doctor, who police said found no obvious signs of injury. He was given first aid and discharged.

In the context of the investigation of the two complaints, evidence emerged against the above arrested.

The ICF Limassol continues the examinations.
