A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of the attempted murder of a 36-year-old in Paphos on Tuesday night, police said.

The asylum seeker from Syria was injured late Tuesday in an apparent attack with a sharp object and was taken to Paphos General Hospital by a group of compatriots.

Due to his injuries which included chest and arm wounds, he was unable to provide an immediate statement to authorities who resumed their investigations on Wednesday.

This led to the arrest of the younger man later in the day. He is facing charges of attempted murder.
