Following chaos last weekend, traffic arrangements have been made to ease access to Fikardou for its Christmas village, police said on Friday.

From Saturday to Tuesday, arrangements will be in place to ease congestion and direct traffic.

Drivers will only be able to enter the village from Klirou and exit via Gourri, following signs that will be placed along the route.

Hordes of people visited the Christmas village in Fikardou last Sunday afternoon catching police unaware, and necessitating a hasty change in traffic arrangements.

Small mini buses had been laid on to ferry those who had to park some distance away to the festivities.

The village is host to one of seven Christmas villages set up around the island this year to boost commerce in rural places.

The villages will run until January 7 offering food, drink and entertainment with a Christmas spirit.
