Man arrested on suspicion of icon theft, drug possession

A 37-year-old man suspected of stealing icons was arrested in Limassol in the early morning hours of Wednesday.

According to police, the arrest took place around 1am after receiving information that a suspicious person attempting to steal oil from a parked truck was seen in the Kapsalos area.

Officers from the Limassol police department went to the area to locate the suspect.

As part of the investigation, they stopped a semi-truck driven by a 37-year-old permanent resident of Limassol. A body search revealed a transparent bag containing a small amount of crystal methamphetamine, leading to his arrest for illegal drug possession.

Police also found during a search of his vehicle, five icons and burglary tools, including scissors, gloves, and a crowbar, for which he did not provide satisfactory explanations.

Plastic containers with oil were also found.

Meanwhile, a drug test carried on the suspect also came back positive.

The 37-year-old is facing charges of alleged theft and illegal possession of property.
