Police in the Nicosia district on Thursday arrested a man and a woman over a string of knifepoint robberies at kiosks.

A total of three kiosk heists were reported in the last three days, in the villages of Psimolofou and Ergates, and the Lakatamia suburb of Anthoupoli. In addition, a shop in the village of Arediou was also robbed.

Police on Friday said the female suspect, aged 24, had entered the three kiosks and threatened staff with a knife, before taking money out of the tills at the first two kiosks and making off with it.

At the third kiosk, however, she reportedly fled after a worker refused to hand over any money.

At the shop in Arediou, the woman reportedly placed a bag on the counter and claimed there was a gun inside, before demanding the worker behind the counter hand over money from the till.

Investigations carried out by police in Lakatamia and the village of Klirou determined that the woman involved in all four robberies was the 24-year-old in question, and arrested her alongside a 28-year-old man.
