Man scammed out of €55,000

A 60-year-old Limassol resident has lost €55,000 in an online scam, police said on Tuesday.

According to the police report, the man made a complaint to Limassol CID that between 2020 and 2021, he received a text message through a messaging app, from a woman residing abroad.

The woman allegedly said that a relative of hers was ill and in need of money for treatment.

The 60-year-old reported that through 14 separate transactions, the woman secured a total of €55,450 from him.

The case is still under investigation.
