Greens sound alarm over wharf in Protaras

The Green Party on Wednesday raised questions about a potential new illegality committed on a beach in Protaras.

According to the party’s announcement, the construction under scrutiny is a wharf at Yianna Marie beach.

Party head Giorgos Perdikis, in a letter to the Famagusta district officer raised the question of whether and how a permit for the construction had been granted.

The party has charged that it is clearly visible that the wharf starts from the shore and ends in the sea.

“As environmentalists we have received a complaint that the construction was arbitrary, carried out without the required permits, and without any respect for nature and bathers,” the Greens said.

“If the complaints are confirmed, the authorities must restore the beach, immediately.”

The party statement noted that lack of environmental awareness has multifaceted costs, both for those carrying out the damage and for wider society.
