Colourful concerts not to miss

gaba project

Evenings of exciting music are approaching soon, taking music lovers all over Cyprus this April. A handpan, lyra and double bass concert by the Gaba Project will take place in Limassol on April 14. Vasilis Vasiliou and Christina Polycarpou will team up with Nicolas Tryphonos to present a unique soundscape from the fusion of these three instruments.

Taking place at Ypogeia Skini/Polichoros Synergeio, the 8pm performance will also present some arrangements of musical traditions of the Eastern Mediterranean region (Armenia, Cyprus, Turkey and Bulgaria), in a completely fresh mood, transforming their rhythm.

More concerts will follow on April 20 in Nicosia and Limassol. The Strovolos Municipal Theatre will host over 100 musicians as Sistema Cyprus students from Nicosia and Larnaca join forces with youth from the Cantal region in France to present the Mélange Musical. Under the direction of conductor Santiago Ossa Alzate, the orchestras will present a multicultural programme with compositions from Cyprus, France, Russia, Cuba, Portugal and the Czech Republic.

On the same evening, a piano solo recital will fill Kolossi Castle as Tatiana Stupak presents the From Baroque to Romanticism concert. This is thought to be the first time ever a grand piano recital will be performed inside the castle and the evening’s repertoire will include well-known works by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, Schumann, Tchaikovsky and an Etude by the local composer David Pentecost. The event will also feature an art exhibition by Cyprus-based artist Anna Privaloff for visitors to explore before enjoying the music.
