The Cyprus Union of Shipowners (CUS) on Wednesday announced a €300,000 food donation to the people of Gaza, through the Republic of Cyprus’ Amalthea initiative.

“The Cyprus Union of Shipowners decided to actively participate and contribute to the efforts of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide humanitarian aid to Gaza through the “Amalthea” Initiative,” the union said in their announcement.

“The said initiative of the Cypriot government has garnered worldwide recognition and commendation from the international community,” it added.

Following detailed discussions with Shipping Debity Minister Marina Hadjimanolis, the leadership of the union—including Andreas Hadjiyiannis, Polys V. Hajioannou, George Mouskas, Haris Zachariou, Kyriakos Z. Mouskas, and Nicole Mylonas— unanimously decided to make this substantial contribution.

The union mentioned that these essential food supplies have already been delivered to the Port of Larnaca, ready to be dispatched to those in need.

It should be noted that earlier today, Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh said that the US ship military vessel the Sagamore is currently in Larnaca, where it is being loaded with humanitarian aid to be shipped to Gaza.

The Sagamore is a cargo vessel slated to make ongoing trips between Larnaca and the offshore floating pier as USAID and other partners collect aid from around the world.

“The Cyprus Union of Shipowners fully supports the efforts made by the Cypriot government, which highlight and enhance the role of the Republic of Cyprus as a pillar of security, cooperation, and solidarity in the wider region,” the announcement concluded.
