Larnaca Airport customs department on Tuesday announced the confiscation of a large volume of smuggled tobacco products, intended for the UK.
The stash was intercepted on Friday when, when after checks officers uncovered a total of 246 boxes of 200 cigarettes each, and around 14 kilos of loose tobacco, none of which bore the requisite health labels and other regulatory packaging.
The items were found hidden in three suitcases.
The three passengers to whom the luggage belonged were subsequently arrested and released after being fined a total of €20,000, that is €8,500, €6,500 and €5,000, out of court for the crime.
