A 33-year-old man is currently under observation at the Baris psychiatric hospital in northern Nicosia after having stolen an ambulance and driven it 25 kilometres.
The man reportedly fell ill in the early hours of Saturday morning in the village of Fyllia, near Morphou, where he lives, with an ambulance called to aid him.
However, when the ambulance arrived, a disagreement arose between the man and the paramedics as to whether he could sit in the front of the ambulance or not. The man reportedly threatened to kill the paramedics during the argument.
Following this disagreement, the man climbed into the driver’s seat of the ambulance and drove it from Fyllia to the Dr Burhan Nalbantoglu hospital in northern Nicosia.
While driving to Nicosia, the man livestreamed himself on social media, saying his family had poisoned him and attempted to kill him.
He also called the accident & emergency department at the Dr Burhan Nalbantoglu hospital and told them, “I am coming to kill you”.
Upon arrival at the hospital, he was taken to the Baris psychiatric hospital and examined, before being kept under observation.
The police’s investigation into the matter is ongoing.
