A 60-year-old man was in critical condition in hospital on Friday after sustaining burns while attempting to light a barbecue.

According to the state health services (Okypy), he is currently in the intensive care unit at Nicosia General Hospital, receiving treatment for burns on his face and body. Doctors have described his condition as critical.

The man is believed to have sustained his injuries while trying to light a barbecue, apparently using petrol instead of paraffin.
