Wolt delivery service on Saturday slammed the racist attacks against delivery drivers in Limassol, following reports of an increase in assaults.
The company specified that since June 2023, it had expressed concerns to authorities in a letter about the “nature and frequency of attacks against delivery drivers,” noting that “in most cases, they have a racist undertone.”
Last week, delivery drivers in Limassol staged two protests, leading to the announcement of a three-day strike starting on Friday. Beginning this Monday, deliveries will not be available after 8pm.
“Everyone is afraid to do their job,” delivery driver Rajesh told the Cyprus Mail. He described it “an everyday occurrence” for drivers to be ambushed, robbed and humiliated by groups of people.
“We’ve had eggs thrown at us, glass bottles smashed on our helmets, our bikes stolen. We can’t continue like this.”
Wolt condemned any form of violence and urged victims of racist attacks to contact its 24-hour service line for support.
