Two remanded after massive drugs haul seized

Limassol court on Friday remanded two men aged 38 and 21 for seven days after 70kg of drugs was allegedly found in the former’s vehicle on Wednesday.

The 38-year-old who was already on remand for six days since a court appearance on Thursday, was rearrested on new charges and remanded again, while the 21-year-old was only arrested on Thursday night and brought to court on Friday.

He had turned himself in after an arrest warrant was issued against him.

The narcotics stash was packed in two suitcases inside the vehicle owned by the 38-year-old. The various packages contained 10kg of cannabis, 60 kg of cannabis edibles (gummies), about half a kilo of cannabis resin, 200 ecstasy pills, 150 grammes of cocaine, and other small quantities of narcotics substances.

According to the Cyprus News Agency, there was tension at the court prior to the start of the proceedings on Friday when relatives of the older man who claimed that he had merely loaned his vehicle to the 21-year-old, allegedly harassed members of the younger man’s family.

The 38-year-old, according to the report appeared to have been unaware that there had been drugs in his vehicle. The report also said the 21-year-old was refusing to cooperate with police.
