Foul play in the case of a dead infant found at a Nicosia cemetery has been ruled out, police sources said on Monday.
Cyprus News Agency (CNA) reported a woman found the dead baby in a Nicosia cemetery on Sunday and notified the police.
The woman had been tending a nearby grave.
Investigations indicated that the baby had died in August during birth and had been buried by a priest.
Police said the infant may not have been buried deep enough and the soil had been washed away by rain or the grave had been dug up by cats, as pawprints were found around the grave.
It appears that both the infant found and its twin had died shortly after birth and had been buried at the Ayios Constantinos and Elenis cemetery.
Police found a tag with a Greek name on the infant.
According to Philenews, priests told the police that the baby was one of the twins that died recently and had been buried after an aerobaptism at the site.
One baby died on August 24 and the other a day later.
